You don't know when your car will fail to start in the parking lot or when a tire will pop while driving home from work. However, there are actions that you can take to ensure that you're ready for an emergency situation when it occurs.

If a tires blows out suddenly, you can replace it with the spare in your trunk. It may also be possible to seal the puncture temporarily so that you can drive it to a nearby service station. If your engine won't turn over, a portable battery charger may be able to provide enough of a jolt to start your vehicle.

Be sure to have a cellphone or radio in your car so that you can call for help or keep abreast of changing weather conditions. If possible try to stay close to your car until help is able to reach your location.
